Scooters are a great way to explore the city, get some fresh air, and have fun. But while they are convenient and easy to use, it’s important to remember that scooter safety is crucial. In this blog post, we will discuss the importance of wearing a helmet while using a scooter, and provide some tips on how to stay safe while scootering.

Why Wearing a Helmet is Important

Wearing a helmet is one of the most important things you can do to stay safe while scootering. In the event of an accident, a helmet can prevent serious head injuries, or even save your life. This is because the head is the most vulnerable part of the body when it comes to impact, and a helmet can provide a barrier of protection against serious head trauma.

Scootering can be a fun and convenient way to get around, but it’s important to remember that safety should always come first. By following traffic laws, staying on designated trails, keeping a safe distance from others, watching for hazards, and using hand signals, you can ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable ride. So the next time you go scootering, remember to wear your helmet and stay safe out there!

Tips for Staying Safe While Scootering

In addition to wearing a helmet, there are several other things you can do to stay safe while scootering. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  1. Follow Traffic Laws – Scooters are considered vehicles and must follow the same traffic laws as cars and bicycles. This means stopping at stop signs and red lights, and following the flow of traffic.
  2. Stay on the Trail – In many cities, it is illegal to ride scooters on the sidewalk or the road. Instead, stick to designated trails or bike lanes.
  3. Keep a Safe Distance – Always keep a safe distance from other riders and pedestrians. This will help you avoid accidents and give you enough time to react if something unexpected happens.
  4. Watch for Hazards – Keep an eye out for hazards on the trail, such as uneven pavement, gravel, or debris. These can cause you to lose control of the scooter and lead to an accident.
  5. Use Hand Signals – Use hand signals to communicate with other riders and drivers. This will help them know where you are going and avoid collisions.

If bad weather is coming in, paddle closer to the dock, as the wind can change rapidly and create larger waves in a matter of minutes. If you hear thunder or see lightning dont send people out and tell them to get off the water and stay off and out of the water, and in a safe location for 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder.

Is the Hydrobike safe? Will it tip?

Hydrobikes are extremely stable.   They are unsinkable and virtually impossible to tip.  Hydrobikes will float 400 lbs worth of rider and cargo.  250 lb. riders can jump up and down on side decks without tipping.  Hydrobikes can operate safely in 4-5 foot waves.  You can jump off and climb back aboard without tipping.

Are Hydrobikes easy to ride?

Very easy! Everyone from 8 – 80 can enjoy Hydrobikes. This is easier than riding a bicycle.  In fact, those who cannot ride a bicycle can enjoy riding a Hydrobike.

There is no balance, skill, or extra strength required. The spinning propeller underwater offers very little resistance but offers great efficiency. You’ll be amazed how quickly you move away from the dock or shoreline. You pedal forward, and you pedal in reverse to go backwards or assist in stopping. By turning the front rudder in slight movement left or right you will move in those directions.

What are the Hydrobike pontoons made of? Can they sink?

Hydrobike floats are unsinkable! They are virtually indestructible. For this reason our pontoons are used by emergency and rescue forces for lifesaving applications 12 months of the year.

Paddle board safety:

When paddle boarding, always wear a Personal Floatation Device (PFD) and use a leash to ensure your board won’t drift away if you fall. Before heading out, check local weather and water conditions and avoid paddling alone. Be sure you know how to swim, understand basic navigation rules, and stay alert to your surroundings. Dress for the water temperature, not just the weather, and protect yourself from the sun. Stay hydrated and take energy snacks with you. If you’re a beginner, tell us and we will teach you the basics. Your safety should be your priority while paddle boarding.
